Defero’s is seeking a Paid Media Strategist to join its growing digital media team. This individual should possess high quality strategic and executional capabilities in the paid search media realm for clients of scale. While the role calls for specialization in craft (focused on SEM), this individual will be a strategist above all else, and encouraged to look beyond just paid search in assessing a strategic approach for a client’s media spend.


Strategically and tactically own all aspects and quality of paid search media strategies and tactics we deploy for our accounts. Responsibilities of the role are two-fold, both logistically ensuring the mechanical/routine elements of all SEM tactics are executed effectively and to the highest caliber, but also producing measurable positive results for our clients - which is the ultimate accountability for the role.

Specifically within each tactic and strategy, the following are key responsibilities that lie squarely on the ownership of the Paid Media Strategist, SEM:

  • Architecting, building, measuring, optimizing effective Paid Search campaigns that align with client goals/objectives.
  • Managing budgets and bids for multiple platforms including Google AdWords, Bing Ads, Yahoo Gemini, etc. through bid management tools, as well as directly in the publisher.
  • Mapping, conducting, measuring, and implementing the results of A/B and multivariate tests for ad copy, targeting, landing page variations, etc.
  • Providing constructive feedback regarding landing page performance / conversion rate optimization.
  • Working with client and internal stakeholders to implement new campaigns and strategies to scale existing campaigns into new areas of opportunity.
  • Performing traffic analysis in Google Analytics related to paid digital traffic and other sources / mediums.
  • Evaluating budget levels on a frequent basis and execute tactics to improve efficiencies.
  • Measuring and optimizing campaigns to meet internal KPIs.
  • Acting as one of the subject matter experts both internally and in front of clients.
  • Providing guidance, support, and training to junior level internal resources.
  • Planning, preparing, and delivering Quarterly Business Reviews, and other performance / pitch elements for clients.
  • Leading vendor and tool evaluations, with strategic recommendations. Qualifications Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required (marketing, business, or technology related major preferred)
  • Agency experience preferred, but not required
  • Minimum of 3 years managing paid digital campaigns, with an emphasis on paid search
  • Current AdWords certification(s)


  • Expert level knowledge and experience in Google AdWords and Bing Ads Manager
  • Intermediate knowledge of DoubleClick or other bid automation software platforms
  • Experience in building media plans, projections for clients
  • Knowledge of all other Microsoft Office programs
  • Comfortable using Google Analytics and other reporting platforms
  • Results-oriented
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work under extremely tight timelines and manage multiple high priority projects
  • Experience in speaking directly to clients about campaign performance and strategy
