The Marketing Communications Manager works with the Marketing Communications Director to develop the Garden’s brand, external voice and strategy to: attract visitors, reach and retain existing members, generate new members, stir discussion and drive traffic to the Garden’s website and social media platforms in support of the Garden’s mission.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage the development of content for dbg.org
  • Coordinate the managing and testing of new functionality on the Garden’s website and serve as primary liaison between the Garden and Web company; review content on micro-sites; continually document process and procedures for the website, and maintain web maps
  • Continually manage search engine optimization, as appropriate
  • Manage Garden community donation requests
  • Serve as key contact for assigned publication(s) and perform a variety of writing and/or editorial duties, to include planning, designing, writing text, editing and/or producing Sonoran Quarterly, Garden Blog and Conservation Newsletter, and other Garden collateral materials
  • Coordinate the Garden’s email marketing and communications; schedule and execute the bi-weekly Garden News e-newsletter and continue the email segmentation project; coordinate with other email stakeholders, including membership, group sales, education and the Desert Landscape School
  • Manage online coupons for all departments
  • Manage the data warehouse, including coordinating and executing ticketed event reminders, posting event survey emails and membership renewal emails
  • Assist with media relations and media clip tracking

Position Requirements include:

  1. Bachelor level degree in advertising, marketing, web development or communications
  2. Excellent writing and research skills, and the ability to produce editorial and technical writing
  3. AP Style experience and ability to reorganize text to create consistency in grammar, format, and message
  4. 3-5 years of work experience in marketing communications, media relations, online marketing or similar field
  5. Ability to jump from the creative side of marketing to the analytical side, and demonstrate why ideas are analytically sound
  6. Functional knowledge of, or experience with, HTML/CSS
  7. Knowledge of search engine optimization-think, including basic keyword research
  8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work individually on a project or in a team environment
  9. Eagerness to meet and exceed objectives and take on more responsibility
  10. Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  11. Ability to effectively communicate results to management in a fast-paced environment
