Job Title: Marketing Communications Manager
Reports To: Executive Director
Position: Part Time; 80 hours per month
Position Summary: The Marketing Communications Manager is responsible for overall Brand Management. Through promotional activities, the goal is to raise the Conservancy’s Brand awareness and value among the key, segmented target audiences. The Manager will develop and execute an annual plan which addresses Conservancy’s marketing communications objectives, strategies and tactics including positioning, messaging, target audience segmentation/prioritization and budget allocations. The Marketing Manager uses strong creative, writing, leadership and organization skills to ensure high quality deliverables which are on time and on budget.
The Manager will work with the Board of Directors Marketing Committee in regard to annual plan approval, overall brand and marketing strategies and communications priorities.
The Manager will work with the Development Director to develop communications materials in support of fundraising activities such as Society and donor events, direct mail campaigns, sponsorships, etc.
The Manager will work with the Field Institute Director and Manager to develop communications materials in support of events (Junior Citizen Scientists Fair, Research Symposium) as well as a PR plan to highlight Field Institute research and findings.
The Manager will work with Steward Program Chairs to promote Steward activities and achievements via press, Activity Guides, Conservancy publications, website, social media, email blasts etc. (Family Sonoran Sunday, Library Lectures)
The Manager will work with Steward volunteers who demonstrate graphic arts and copywriting skills to ensure high quality materials which support the Conservancy’s brand goals. (Mountain Lines magazine, Tour de Scottsdale, Preserve Day, Scottsdale Guide ad)
. Manage the overall Brand image, messaging and content for all Conservancy’s communications.
. Develop and execute a high profile public relations plan to better leverage the Conservancy’s contributions, successes and accomplishments. Develop and circulate media releases for all personal and news announcements.
. Responsible for posting relevant, up to date information to keep Conservancy’s public website fresh, usable and appealing.
. Edit Mountain Lines magazine, the premier marketing vehicle for Conservancy Brand image and messaging. Work with volunteer writers/graphic artists/photographers to develop a high quality, impactful magazine on a quarterly basis. Enhance the distribution plan to extend audience coverage for both the print and electronic versions. Develop tactics to solicit paid advertising/sponsorships.
. Edit the Monthly Activity Guide (September-April) in its printed and electronic form. Ensure information is presented in an appealing and attention-getting form.
. Manage the Conservancy’s postings and messaging plan for all social media (e.g. Facebook, Instagram).
. Develop print advertising in anticipation of gratis opportunities.
. Develop comprehensive communications packages supporting fundraising strategies targeted at individuals, corporations and foundations.
. Position and promote the Conservancy numerous events/activities/forums through printed and electronic materials.
. Increase Brand visibility at trailheads via signage, materials presentation and more.
. Responsible for developing proposals for the annual marketing budget request as well as managing budget expenses.
Education: Bachelor degree in Journalism , Marketing or related field
Experience: Two to four years developing and managing communications programs. Nonprofit sector experience a plus
Skills and Characteristics:
. Ability to write and edit in AP style, expertise in drafting and distributing news releases, media advisories, feature stories, blog posts, etc. Experience in local media relations.
. Excellent writing and oral communications skills
. Working knowledge of print and electronic production
. Strong project management skills
. Self-starter with decision-making ability
. Strategic orientation with a working knowledge to guide projects from inception to completion
